These are possible options to resolve access issues and challenges that users may be facing, given the circumstances brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Service-specific support will need to be directed to the individual providers, and please be aware that they’ll be facing their own support challenges as well.
Comcast is providing new customers 60 days of complimentary Internet Essentials service and free access to Xfinity WiFi hotspots across the country to anyone who needs them - including non-Exfinity Internet subscribers. Here is a map of Xfinity WiFi hotspots.
Spectrum is offering 60-day free service to households with students at speeds up to 100 Mbps for those who do not already have a subscription. Charter will also continue offering Spectrum Internet Assist for low-income households that offers speeds up to 30 Mbps. They provide a phone number to enroll in the program on their website. The company said that all installation fees will be waived for new student households.
All AT&T consumer home internet wireline customers, as well as Fixed Wireless Internet, can use unlimited internet data. AT&T is also offering internet access for qualifying limited income households at $10 a month through the Access from AT&T program.
Users will need to refer to information and support tools from their Internet Service Provider (ISP) and/or the manufacturer for their wireless router when troubleshooting internet connection issues at home.
Information on student housing WiFi can be found at this link, which is provided through myresnet.com. If you have a problem connecting to residence hall Internet, please contact Apogee at 1-877-392-5617. The Apogee Helpdesk is normally available 24x7.
If students are physically located on campus (but outside of housing), the IT Help Desk can provide assistance during work hours at (716) 878-3457, by email at ithelpdesk@buffalostate.edu, or through service requests at itportal.buffalostate.edu. This help will be limited to Network login credentials, and registering devices on campus Secure WiFi.
